Rescue Me ID: 17-09-21-00328Stewart (male)

Neapolitan Mastiff    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

ABOUT ME: This 6 year old stud muffin is Stewart, and he is one special dog! He was found in a field known by local animal control officers for being a popular dog dump site, and when he was picked up he was severely emaciated, sick, and needed help immediately. When he arrived at the Bullpen, he barely weighed 70lbs. and was suffering from double ear and eye infections, but no matter how sick he was, he was always a happy, gentle boy. Now, four months, numerous antibiotics, an eye surgery and well over 100lbs of food later, Stewart is looking like a whole new guy! WHAT I NEED IN A HOME: Stewart is a big teddy bear at heart and definitely ... (Read More)loves getting attention from people. He prefers not to be left alone and will cry if you do leave. He doesn't get angry or destructive, just concerned that you might not come back for him. After he is settled in his new home, we suspect he will do just fine. It seems that Stewart loves kids of all sizes, but because he's so big and goofy, he would probably do best in a home with kids over 8. Because he's a Neapolitan Mastiff, there is a significant amount of drool involved, so his forever family has to accepting of that. Stewart has been friendly with all of the dogs here at the Bullpen, but hasn't had the opportunity to meet any small dogs. He is VERY interested in the barn cats, so a feline-free home would be best. THE DETAILS: Stewart is very eager to please, and has learned to use a dog door and go in his crate. He has almost perfected his leash training and responds well to voice commands. Stewart is neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped, but will need to finish heartworm treatment with his new family. For more information on Stewart or any of our other dogs, please email us at: info@bullpenrescue.org. Ready to give Stewart the forever home of his dreams? Fill out our Adoption Application, located at bullpenrescue.org under the 'work with us' tab. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We highly recommend that our potential adopters fill out an online application as soon as possible, as it greatly expedites the process of finding the right dog for your situation. The adoption app is available on our website (www.bullpenrescue.org) under the 'work with us' tab. If you choose not to fill out an application before inquiring about a particular dog, please briefly tell us about yourself, family, and lifestyle since this will help us determine if the dog you're interested in is a good match. Our dogs are available for adoption nationwide but preference is given to adopters willing to do an in-person meeting. Please understand that our dogs are not adopted on a first-come, first-serve basis, but rather we strive for a 'perfect placement' so we know that they will not be failed again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Less)

Despite its intimidating appearance, the Neapolitan Mastiff is a loving family guardian. A Neapolitan Mastiff does best with a master who has experience with dogs and exudes leadership. This breed can be socialized to get along well with children and other pets, but two males of this species will butt heads. Neapolitan Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
