This breed can be socialized to get along well with children and other pets, but two males of this species will butt heads. Neapolitan Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.

Ancient Romans used the Neapolitan Mastiff for arena combat. Neapolitan Mastiffs are descended from a breed of huge dog that existed in ancient Greece and ancient Rome called the Molossus. An ancestor of the Neapolitan Mastiff was the favorite dog of Alexander the Great.
